The first thing consumers do before buying a product is to check out the reviews. There are many reasons that a person would leave a review. Do they love the product so much that they want to share it? Do they hate it and want to warn others not to waste their money? Or are they leaving the review because there are receiving some incentive from the company? All of these things are what you need to think about while looking through the reviews. There are few things all trustworthy reviews will have.

Details

Details will make or break a good review. A one-line statement saying you love or hate the product is not helpful. While it will show up and affect the statistics, it doesn’t give others anything to go off of. You don’t need to write a three-page essay, but enough details to help others understand. The details will let others know that you actually tried the product and why it did or didn’t work for you.

Honest

While you are writing your detailed report of the item, make sure it honest. Buying a product without doing your research and then being upset when it isn’t what you wanted is not the company’s problem. When writing a review, make sure you are not giving the product more credit than it deserves. If it is just fine, don’t talk it up to be nice. Doing that will mislead others that are not as easygoing. We all know we need to be honest, make sure the reviews reflect it.

Tone

Keep the tone civil. There is no reason to take out your frustrations on review sections. Readers are going to skip over your review if it is emotional. It will not make them think badly about the company or the item. Instead, they will think you are unreliable. The best way to get your point across is to remain calm and write an intellectual review. Tell your feelings using the facts of what you experienced. There is no need to liven it up with an unfriendly tone.

Update

It is a great idea to update if your thoughts or experience changes. A company will reach out to those that have had a bad experience and leave a review about it. If they correct the issue, you should write an update. This doesn’t mean you deleted the poor review you gave. Just add to it. Leave the original and then add how your opinion changed. These are the best reviews since they show what happened over time. A bad review can turn into a good review.

Proofread

Proofreading is not just for those in school. Don’t ruin a review with something unreadable. No one will take the time to read your review if you do not take the time to proofread. Reading through it a second time will also give those writing a second chance to make the above corrections.

Never leave a worthless review again.
