Pets can be some of the greatest joys in life. These smallest members of the family hold a special place in our hearts and it’s important to take care and keep them happy and healthy. It’s easy to practice care for yourself at the same time as you do for fluffy or fido, just follow along for some good ideas to make the most out of your time together.

Exercise Together
Dogs love going out for walks, you need to take them out anyway, so take care of yourself at the same time. Put on a good podcast or your favorite running sneakers and hit the pavement together. Your dog will help you to not take working out so seriously and burning calories will be a breeze. You can practice yoga at home with both cats and dogs alike – your cat will love rolling around on your yoga mat as you practice your downward dog. Incorporate working out with your pets and it will never feel like a chore.
Playtime
Our pets love playtime. It’s important to their overall health and happiness that they get sufficient play with their favorite humans. Be sure to take time to engage and stimulate your pets with fun games or toys. It’s bonus endorphins for you as you watch and laugh at Socks chasing after a flailing fish. Playtime together helps both of you unwind, relax and enjoy the simple things in life.
Reading and Snuggles
Both humans and their animals love warm snuggly blankets. Make some time in the evening to take a little rest and relaxation with a good book. Set the mood with some classical or jazz music to calm both you and your best friend, gather up a cozy blanket and snuggle it out together. Animals are soothed by soft music and will be drifting off to sleep in your lap while you take in the calming purrs and snores of your fuzzy friend. It’s good bonding time for the both of you as well as self-care for yourself.

Set a Healthy Schedule
Make a commitment to both you and your pet’s health. Find a good veterinarian from someone you trust or with great recommendations and establish a good relationship with them. Our pets cannot tell us when they aren’t feeling well or when they are uncomfortable, so we need to keep them on a schedule for yearly checkups to give them the best life we can. This goes for us too – keep up with appointments so you can keep up with your favorite fluffies and their never-ending energy.
