It’s a few months into the year and it’s likely safe to say that some of our resolutions have fallen to the wayside and it is time to ease up on putting so much pressure on ourselves. There are plenty of little changes that can lead toward better habits in no time. Try a few of these to ease yourself into a healthier lifestyle with a little effort.
Make Your Bed
Your mom was right about this one. This small chore you used to get allowance for can improve your day drastically at the get-go. Right away, your room will instantly look more organized and you’ll feel ready to take on anything that comes your way. It will also feel so rewarding at night snuggling into a welcoming bed. The great thing about making your bed every day – you’ve already accomplished something before even leaving the bedroom, setting yourself up success for the rest of the day.
Create Your Nightly Ritual
What usually happens when you get into your bed – you get all settled and prepare for the best sleep of your life, and then your brain has other plans. Replaying and reviewing everything that happened in your day and everything that is to come, it can be hard to shut off your brain. Find a nightly ritual that sends a message to your brain it is time to wind down. Take a nightly shower, read a book, apply lavender scented lotion, or whatever makes you calm and relaxed.
Incorporating Healthy Eating in Small Tricky Ways
A fruit bowl is more than casual art. It becomes a readily available snack and you’ll avoid grazing in the fridge or pantry which can lead to better nutritional choices. Keep your fruit bowl ever changing with the season and experiment with exotic fruits to find something new and adventurous. Nuts are also a great quick snack you can put out on the counter for easy access.
Eliminate Negative Self-talk
Be your best cheerleader and advocate. You aren’t going to be able to help or love another person if you can’t love yourself. There are lists of phrases and prompts such as “I know, but,” and “I should…” that are negative thinking styles. Try to practice some self-love and self-care to pep yourself up!
Walking With Purpose
Finding fun opportunities to walk here and there will add up over time. Walking is one of the easiest ways to stay healthy and active without much effort. Park your car further away from the grocery story (Bonus: no dings on your car doors!) or take a short walk after dinner to help digestion. Finding those little bursts of walking will keep your mind calm and help you stay active throughout the day. Making small healthy changes little bits at a time is a lot easier than trying to change your life in one fell swoop. These don’t have to be anything big or diary-worthy – it’s really about keeping yourself growing towards a healthier lifestyle in achievable amounts. You’ll feel great and accomplished everyday!
