at are a fraction of the cost of a full facial. So grab your favorite bathrobe, relax, and let’s get started.
Start by cleansing
Remove any makeup you might have on, then gently wash your face with circular motions with your favorite cleanser. Remember, you want to use a cleanser with a relatively low pHto keep it from being too harsh on your skin.
Steam your skin to open the pores
Steaming your face opens up your pores and makes it easier for your skin to work out the gunk that is hiding there. You can do this at home by boiling a pot of water on the stove, and then pouring the water into a heat-proof bowl. Set the bowl on your table, then lean your face over the bowl, making sure your face stays a safe distance away, but close enough that you can feel the heat. Put a towel over your head so that the steam can’t escape, then relax for 5-10 minutes.
Extract (gently!)
Now that your pores are open, any dirt and nastiness that might have been lingering there will be easier to remove. Using clean hands and a Kleenex, massage the areas where you see blackheads and clogged pores to gently work any residue out. Remember not the force anything that doesn’t want to come out, and not to pick at your skin in any stubborn areas.
Apply a mask
With your skin feeling squeaky clean, it’s now time to apply your favorite sheet mask and let your skin soak up the moisture. Leave it on for however long the package recommends, and then gently blot any remaining moisture into your skin (or wipe excess residue off) once you’re finished.
