Everyone says dog is man’s best friend, but through the years the cat has become more and more popular.  Just take a look at any internet video craze and it’s usually starring a cute cat.  When it comes to owning a pet, do you not think of yourself as a ‘cat person’?  Think again, they are easier to take care of than a dog and might fit your lifestyle more than you know!

Less Mess, Less Stress

Dogs are notoriously high maintenance when it comes to clean up.  They have to go for walks, you have to clean up their business, and it becomes a lot of work.  A cat has their litter box where everything gets hidden like buried treasure.  There are even self-cleaning litter boxes that take care of the dirty work leaving you more play and cuddle time with Mr. Fluffers.  Cats are cleaner than dogs – they aren’t rolling around in the mud or playing in puddles when it rains.  Cats clean and take care of themselves.

More Freedom

When you have a dog, you need to make sure you are home to walk it, feed it and make sure it’s not left alone too long.  This can put a major damper in your social calendar.  A cat loves its alone time and will probably spend most of it sleeping rather than tearing up your favorite shoes.  You can even leave a cat for a couple days if you leave enough water and food.  Hello last minute weekend getaway!

Zen and Calm

Cats are known for their calming abilities.  They are just casually gliding through life not giving a care in the world.  We could learn a thing or two from cats when it comes to living stress-free.  Dogs are hyper with a need to be pet, loved and played with all the time, so it can be hard after a long day of work to settle in when rover wants to throw around his favorite toy.  Cats have less active energy, especially when they are older, so they are there when you want them, but otherwise, they are perfectly happy to do their own thing while you do yours.

Snuggle Buddies

Dogs do love a good ‘ol fashioned cuddle fest, but if you find the right cat, chances are they will to.  You can still have your snuggle buddy while you watch movies and take naps.  Cats are just as capable of needing human love and touch as dogs, just not as needy.

Separate Space

Cats love having their own time to themselves.  They sleep on average around 18 hours a day.  It could be the perfect relationship for you and an animal if you are someone who likes a little peace and quiet every once in a while.  Cats will let you have your space and then be ready to hang if it both suits you at a later time.  No need to feel bad if you can’t spend all day playing with Socks.

Cats make fantastic pets and have been overlooked for a while as social companions.  Given the right chance, cats might be more suitable for the modern lifestyle.
